Jared Opsal was born and raised in the St. Louis area. He currently lives in the Shaw neighborhood with his wife, Stacie Zellin, their daughter, Montana Opsal, and their two dogs, Frisco, and Turtle.
After working in the corporate world for several years, Jared decided to change his career path and become a public servant. He returned to school to earn a Bachelor’s of Science in Health Education and a Masters of Public Administration.
After living in Downtown St. Louis for more than 3 years, Jared recognized the need for a strong community organization within the neighborhood. He joined the Downtown Neighborhood Association (DNA) Board of Directors in 2014. Then, in 2015, Jared was appointed as the founding Executive Director of DNA. During that time, Jared was responsible for establishing 501(c)3 status for DNA, growing the organization to more than 700 members, increasing voter turn-out, and creating Taste of Downtown STL–a yearly celebration of downtown restaurants that drew more than 10,000 visitors in 2018. Jared also has many years of experience working for various non-profits focused on preventing and treating substance use disorders.
His volunteer experience has been spent serving on the boards of special taxing districts in the City of St. Louis, the St. Louis City Continuum of Care (the homeless services coalition overseeing Housing and Urban Development funds), community building non-profits, and a public health organization.
